In 1947, the Indiana University Division of Library Science (DLS) was established as a division within the School of Education with Margaret I. Rufsvold serving as director. In 1966, the Graduate Library School was established as a separate academic unit. In 1980, the name was changed to the School of Library and Information Science. Collection includes correspondence, publications, annual reports, student data, project information, and records related to workshops and conferences held by the Library School throughout the years. The bulk of the records date from Margaret Rufsvold's tenure as director and dean of the program, but the collection does include records from her successors, Charles H. McMullen, who served as acting dean until Bernard Fry was appointed in 1967. Fry served as dean until his retirement in 1980.
